John D. Abbott, 73 April 23, 1945 ~ July 12, 2018 John was born April 23, 1945 at Shelby Hospital in Shelby, NE. to Derold D. (Bud) & Lois Ann Abbott. John attended Shelby High School, Class of 1963, and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, graduating in 1968 with a BA in Business Administration. He married Connie Jo Dunning of Shelby, NE. on November 20, 1965. The family grew to include Bradley James (1972) and Tyrell Lynn (1974) and many special pets throughout the years. John D proudly served his country with the Army National Guard from 1968 to 1975. He taught high school business in Alliance, NE. before moving to Blair, NE in 1970 for the rest of his life. This included 4 years teaching at Blair High School, comptroller at Interstate Harvestore, Washington County Bank loan officer and insurance sales for 30 years, having many clients become personal friends. John D enjoyed golfing, gambling with friends, coffee with the boys and traveling, especially to Estes Park, CO in the fall to see the elk and the turning of the Aspen trees. He was heavily involved with the community of Blair, including Little League, American Legion, Blair City Council, Metropolitan Area Planning Association (MAPA) & National Association of Regional Councils (NARC). John D. Abbott entered into rest at Carter Place in Blair, NE. on July 12, 2018 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. John D was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Douglas Dean Abbott. He is survived by Connie, his wife of 52 years; children: Bradley James (Heather) Abbott of Elkhorn, NE; Tyrell Lynn Abbott of Blair, NE; grandchildren: Asia Alston, Ambrosia Alston, Matthew Meredith, Ethan Abbott and Madelyn Abbott, and his beloved feline Sheldon. Celebration of Life Open House will take place Saturday, August 4th, 2018, at Saint Francis Borgia Catholic Church Social Hall from 11 A.M to 2 P.M. A light lunch will be served.
