Bio

James E. Pavek, 94, Claremont, died Friday, Aug. 17, at the James Valley Nursing Home in Redfield. Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Groton with the Rev. Leonard Fox officiating. Burial was in the Groton Catholic Cemetery. Paetznick-Garness Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were Rodney Barnes, Lowell Beck, Don Hinrichs, C.D. Nietert, Lloyd Sanderson and Clarence Shilhanek. Organist Mrs. Ben Anderson played "On This Day, The First Of Days"; "Lord, Who At Thy First Eucharist" and "Mother Dear, O Pray For Me". He was a retired Cargill grain buyer and born in Lyons, Neb., April 27, 1890. He married Stacey Becvar at St. Paul, Minn., August 10, 1920. After their marriage they lived in Lidgerwood, N.D., before movig back to St. Paul. They came to Huffton in 1927 and in 1936 moved to Claremont. He lived there until the last three years, during which time he has been at the home in Redfield. A World War I veteran, he was a member of the Harold Feser American Legion Post No. 262 in Claremont. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Emery (Helen) Stohr, Claremont; and Mrs. Darrel (Mary Lynn) Jensen, Redfield; one brother, Frank, Wahpeton, N.D.; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, one grandson, six brothers and four sisters.
