Bio

Help is needed to locate grave. Death certificate says remains were buried in "Murphy Cemetery" but no "Murphy Cemetery" has yet to be found/identified near Boyce, Rapides, Louisiana. Note (thanks to SueF, member 47116378 for her suggestions): A Murphy Cemetery (also known as Taylor Cemetery) resides in Acadia Parish and a Murphy Cemetery (also known as Lee Cemetery) is outside (southwest) of city of Natchitoches. Both of these cemeteries are quite far from town of Boyce. However, the death certificate might refer to McNutt Hill Cemetery south of Boyce, with address on Murphy Road at Boyce, Louisiana. Below is list of sources used to create this memorial. 1. Digital image of State of Louisiana death certificate of Wesley Nash (1873/4-1918; wife: Mittie Bass) records death date and place (4 November 1918 near Lamothe, Rapides Parish), and disposition of remains (burial, 5 November 1918 at Murphy Cemetery at [location not identified]; undertaker: coffin bought of Mr R H Grant at town of Boyce). Note: Wesley had been ill with pneumonia/influenza since 26 October 1918 until death, and was being seen by J A Sewell of town of Boyce. Death certificate also provides evidence of gender and color (male, white), marital status (married; spouse: Mittie Bass), occupation (farmer), age (45 years ten months one day), birth date and place (3 January 1873 at Vernon Parish, State of Louisiana), names and birthplaces of parents (father: Ben Nash, deceased, born at Rapides Parish; mother: Alma Johnson, born at Vernon Parish); informant (Ben Nash Jr residing at Boyce RFD number 1). 2. Digital image of 1918 U.S. military registration card of Wesley Nash, provides evidence of residence (RFD of town of Boyce, Rapides Parish, State of Louisiana), occupation (farmer, self-employed, at RFD number 1 of town of Boyce, Rapides, Louisiana), color and age (white, 42 years), date and place of birth (19 January 1876, native born to United States), nearest relative (Mittie Nash residing at RFD of town of Boyce, Rapides Parish, State of Louisiana). 3. Digital image of 1910 U.S. Census (Vernon Parish, Louisiana) provides evidence of head of household and wife having been married ten years; and does not indicate that any children were born to this couple. However, household includes one adopted son (Edward Gill, age 12 years, born in State of Louisiana). Note: Census records surname "Ash".
