Bio

Adella "Della" Marek, 97, long-time resident of Rice's Crossing, Texas died peacefully on Monday, June 30, 2008, at Johns Community Hospital. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor. Services will be Thursday, July 3, at 2 p.m. at Taylor Brethren Church with the Rev. James Hejl officiating. Burial will be at Taylor City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Raley Marek, Rob Marek, Chad Marek, Mike Burns, Jeff Jansky and Shelley Marek. Della was born May 10, 1911 in Taylor. She was joined in marriage to Ted Marek on Sept. 2, 1936 and together they owned and operated Ted's Garage at Rice's Crossing until the late 1970s. To this union were born three sons. Della was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She was known for her kindness, her giving nature and her ability to look on the bright side. Above all she was devoted to her family and found her greatest joy by caring for them. She loved nothing more than a good, challenging domino game and could be found most days sitting on her porch at Rice's Crossing. She loved her church and church family, and was the oldest living member of the Taylor Brethren Church. Her beautiful smile, joy for life and infectious laughter will be sorely missed. Della was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Adolph Marek, on Oct. 7, 1989. She is survived by her sons, James Marek and wife Diane of El Paso, Kelly Marek and wife Sue of Taylor and Rodney Marek and wife Gayle of Elgin; six grandchildren, Raley Marek and wife Candace of San Antonio, Rob Marek of Corpus Christi, Colby Burns and husband Mike of San Antonio, Chad Marek and wife Laurie of Spring, Brandi Marek of New York City and Keri Jansky and husband Jeff of Taylor; and great-grandchildren, Ariece, Atlee and Weston Marek, Mayce Marek, Barron and Ralston Burns, Elise and Noelle Marek, and Ty and Jake Jansky. Memorials may be made to the Taylor Brethren Church or to Taylor Relay for Life. Condra Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
