Bio

Jesse Lee Droke, entered the gates of Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on Wed., March 25, 2008, at the age of 88. He was the 3rd oldest of 11 children. Born Sept. 25, 1919 to James D. and Helen S. Droke, he spent his youth in and around Coalgate and Lehigh, Oklahoma, with his brothers and sisters. He will be missed by a host of extended family and countless friends who knew and loved him. He married Euvada Amanda Cantrell November 19, 1938 and they moved to Oklahoma City where they lived until her death, February 23, 1983. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of WWII. He and Euvada successfully owned and operated D&D Pipe and Supply before his retirement in 1985. He especially loved working in his garden and growing the biggest and best tomatoes. He met and married Gerona M. Earlywine November 5, 1983 and they resided in the Moore-Norman area until her death in July, 2005. They enjoyed traveling and some of their favorite trips included Hawaii and Australia. They were members of Highland Park Baptist Church in Moore until Gerona's death and his health deteriorated. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Droke, brothers, J.D., Perry, Leonard, and Clifford Droke and his great-granddaughter, Anna Jane Salamy. He is survived by his 3 children: daughter, Lois Jean Young and husband, Jim, daughter Phyllis Louise Salamy and husband Richard of Oklahoma City, and son, Michael Lee Droke and wife Marcie of Midwest City grandchildren, Lloyd and Rhonda Young of Milford, New Hampshire, David and Lisa Young of Newcastle, Chris and Eva Young of Oklahoma City, Richard Jay and Marlo Salamy of Oklahoma City, Amanda Droke Powers and husband 1st Lt. Michael Powers of Egland AFB, Florida, and Brian Droke great-grandchildren, Nicolas Young of Newcastle, Jacob, Audra, and Will Salamy of Oklahoma City, Mindy Jo Young of Oklahoma City and Garrett Powers of Florida, and one great-great-granddaughter, Kyla Young of Oklahoma City. His surviving siblings include Novella Droke Moreno of San Jose, California, Theresa Droke Clark, Morrilton, Arkansas, Christine Droke Baldwin, Norma Droke Smith, Randall Droke, and Arvard Droke of Hot Springs, Ark., along with a number of nieces and nephews, family members and friends. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Odyssey Hospice for their kind and loving care. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of choice. Private family interment will be in the Resthaven Memory Gardens followed by a celebration of his life beginning at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2008, in the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, 500 S.W. 104th, Oklahoma City.
