Bio

Janet Smith Wood returned to her Heavenly Father on her 80th Birthday, March 31, 1999 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She passed away peacefully from a stroke suffered on March 27, 1999. Janet was born March 31, 1919 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the 12th of 14 children born to Albert and Maud Thomas Smith.Janet was baptized a member of the LDS Church in 1938 by her future husband, Joseph Snow Wood. They were married October 19, 1939 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. For nearly 60 years, he adored her and she him. She was born and raised on Virginia Street and attended Wasatch Elementary, Bryant Junior High, East High School and the University of Utah. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority. Her life was one of love, compassion, service and example. Janet served in many positions in the Primary, Young Women's and Relief Society organizations of the LDS Church, including 18 years as a hostess at the Church Office Building. She dedicated her life to her loving family. Her survivors include her husband, Joseph; her children, Ginger (Daniel) Hucks of Salt Lake City; James A. (Colleen) Wood of Salt Lake City; Jody (Richard) Grow of Salt Lake City; She dearly loved her seven grandchildren, Heather Hucks, J.D. (DeLonne) Hucks, Jennifer Grow, Catherine (Brian) Holst, Nicole Grow, Trista Grow, Lara Grow and two great-grandchildren, Morgan Holst and Dallin Hucks. She is also survived by a sister, Barbara Clark of Salt Lake City and brother, Tony Smith of Salt Lake City and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Parleys First Ward, 2350 south 2100 East at 12 noon on Monday, April 5. Friends may call at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive on Sunday evening, April 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. or at the Parleys First Ward on Monday, April 5, from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Entombment, Wasatch Lawn Mausoleum.
