Bio

Richard F. McCarty, 72, of Merna, Neb., passed away Wednesday May 30, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be Monday, June 4 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Broken Bow with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the Dale Catholic Cemetery west of Merna with Military Honors. Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of the arrangements. Richard was born October 11, 1945, to Richard and Frances (Besley) McCarty. Richard grew up in the Merna area and graduated from Merna High School. Richard served in the US Army from November of 1965 to October of 1967. He was stationed in Germany. After serving his country Richard returned to Merna. He was married to Helen Fry. Two daughters were born to this union Melissa and Tina. Richard and Helen later divorced. Richard farmed, raised cattle and trucked for many years. Richard loved riding his Harley and attending the Sturgis Rally with his friend Dale Grantzinger. Richard McCarty is survived by two daughters Melissa (Brandon) Babers of Oldsmar, Fla. and Tina Davis of Merna; four grandchildren Tyler McCarty of Omaha, Heather Davis of Omaha, Austin Davis of Merna and Blake Babers of Oldsmar, Fla.; one great-granddaughter Zoey Weinmaster of Omaha; one sister Laura (Bill) Mannel of Anselmo: brothers Larry (Fran) McCarty of Rockford, Ill., Charles (Vicki) McCarty of North Platte and Vic (Sandy) McCarty of Lincoln; special friend Terrie Seitsinger of Merna; and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; sister Elizabeth; brother-in-law Lilburn; and nephew Jeff McCarty. Published in Custer County Chief on June 7, 2018
