THE HOME JOURNAL {Houston Co., Ga.) - Apr. 30, 1908 Mrs. Martha Stripling Dead. Death, with his shadowy wings, has again hovered over our neighborhood and taken one of our friends. With a feeling of sadness I undertake the solemn task of writing something in loving memory of such a noble woman as Mrs. Martha Stripling, who fell asleep in Jesus April 24th at 8:30 o'clock at her home near Heard. She leaves a brother, one daughter, four sons and many other relatives and friends to mourn her death...Last Thursday evening about sunset she was stricken with paralysis and lived about 26 hours...She was 74 years, 1 month, and 6 days old, a dutiful member of the Primitive Baptist church...She was born in Crawford County, March 18th, 1834, and was married to Mr. Richard Jordan in 1854. Mr. Jordan was called to the front in 1861 and was slain in battle the first year of the war. One son by her first husband, Yancey Jordan, now in Crawford county, still lives to mourn her loss. On December 30th, 1869, she was married to Robert Stripling. To this union were born 4 children, 1 daughter and 3 sons; Messrs. George L. Stripling of Macon, Ga., John R. Stripling of Bonaire, Mrs. Mattie Lou Hunt of Heard, Ga., and Mr. Jerome Stripling of Silver Creek, Miss. Her husband died Dec. 3rd, in 1884. Her children were all present in her last hours except Mr. Jerome. She died about 22 hours before he reached her. She was laid to rest at Union Church, Crawford County, by the side of her mother.
