Funeral service for Norma D. Jernigan, 68, of Nacogdoches, will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 28, 2018 at Laird Funeral Home with Kenneth (Screwdriver) Jones and Bro. Bill Shaw officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Jernigan died on Thursday, May 24, 2018 in Nacogdoches. She was born on November 2, 1949 in Virginia, the daughter of Robert Simmons and Frankie Scarborough. Norma moved to Nacogdoches at a young age, she attended and graduated from Nacogdoches High School. A few years later she married Elmer Jernigan on November 5, 1970. They had a wonderful life together and were married for forty-one years until his passing in 2011. Together they would travel to different places following their favorite band Nickeldraft. Norma devoted her life to raising her three children, Wayne, Miranda, and Donna. Norma was known as “mom” to everyone. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially her famous Sunshine Cake which everyone loved. She would spend her free time playing video games on her tablet, and taking care of her dog, Sassy. Her favorite pastime was sitting in front of the TV watching her favorite football team, The Dallas Cowboys, alongside her nephews and other family. Norma was a lifetime member or Ladies Auxiliary of VFW. Serving as pallbearers will be Tommy Stanley Jr., James Branton, David Broadway, Buddy Hartt, Larry Nabours, Jay Beard. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. She is survived by her son, Wayne Jernigan and wife, Michelle of Nacogdoches; daughters: Miranda Holliman and husband, Thomas and Donna Holliman of Nacogdoches; brother, Robert Simmons Jr. and wife Margaret of Houston; sisters, Virginia Brandon of Cushing and Louise Snyder of Pennsylvania; grandchildren Amber Minter and husband, Wade, Johnny Jernigan and wife, Hannah, Theresa Taylor and husband, Andy, Leslie Prieto and husband Jean, Haley Jernigan, Joshua Holliman and wife, Chastity, Alex Amerson, Shelby Holliman, and Shane Jernigan; great grandchildren Jaedyn Holliman, David Taylor, Kennah Jernigan, Lane Taylor, Hayden Jernigan, Lucas Holliman, Peyton Holliman, and Paige Prieto; great nephew, Tommy Stanley Jr. along with other nieces and nephews and other family and close friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Louise Simmons; husband, Elmer Wayne Jernigan and brother in law Bill Brandon.
