Bio

Charles "Charlie" Ray Peace, of Rockwall, TX, passed away May 13, 2018, at the age of 92. He was born February 10, 1926, in Shelby County, TX, to Dewey Blackburn and Edna Pauline (Jones) Peace. He was the only son to Edna and Dewey and had a sister, Billie Marie. Charlie's family owned a farm, "Peaceful Acres," in Shelby County. It was here, at a young age, that he learned hard work ethics. He had to learn to tend to the farm and animals, as well as help his parents with the crops. Charlie attended Concord High School, but was drafted into the Navy before graduating. He was honorably discharged due to medical reasons and did not serve in the war, but was a patriot none the less. When he was young, he met a girl in the neighboring farm by the name of Alice Oleta Solomon. They became friends at the young age of 11 years old! Charlie married Oleta on December 4, 1943 and they have had a blessed "love story" for over 74 years! They had two beautiful daughters, Charlene and Sherry. In his earlier years, Charlie worked for ACME Brick until he went in business for himself running his own company called AMH, Inc., selling heavy automated equipment. He retired in 1988, due to health issues and they moved to the family farm, "Peaceful Acres." He and Oleta had many good years at the farm but in 2005, they were forced to sell the farm and move to Rockwall to be near their girls, again because of health issues. Charlie was a self-made man, never took a handout, always supported himself and family. He was hard working, dedicated and intelligent. He would draft up building plans to have barns, buildings and pole sheds built. He was a jack of all trades, and could do anything he put his mind to. Charlie was always busy, working on a project, tinkering with machines, anything to keep his mind sharp. Though he was diagnosed with diabetes in his late 20s, he never allowed his illness to define him. Charlie had a strong will to live his life and continue providing and blessing his family and others. He was very involved in his church in the Weaver Community of Timpson, TX. His faith was strong, and it was this faith that has carried him through his entire life. Charlie was ordained as a Deacon at Weaver Baptist Church and he felt privileged to serve the Lord. He loved to play guitar, write songs and sing to "his bride." He led the music at their little church in Weaver for many years. When his daughters became adults, married and had their own children, he became a "Pappy" and Oleta became a "Granny." This only filled his heart more, as he could not only share his love, but show his skills to his grandkids in hopes that they would pick up his talent. Charlie was patient, kind, generous, independent, and very loving of his family. His last name of Peace truly depicted his life. He was a Peacemaker at heart and will be missed tremendously. Charlie's life and legacy will continue to be honored and remembered by his loving wife: Oleta Peace; daughters: Charlene Adams and husband David and Sherry Woods and husband Terry; grandchildren: Chuck Kinney, Stacy Wright and husband Steve, Angelia Parks and husband Michael, Lance Woods and wife Brooke and Dustin Woods and wife Christal; and great grandchildren: Anthony, Lanise, Ashlyn, Emily, Tatum, Teagon and Hensley; along with a host of loving relatives and friends. He was greeted at the Pearly Gates by his parents: Dewey and Edna; his sister: Billie Marie Murphy; and best friend: Junior Murphy. Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at First Baptist Church, 224 Smirl Drive, Heath, 75032, with Bro. Phil Alford officiating. Interment will follow at Heath Cemetery. A gathering for family and friends will be held at the church one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00pm.
