Bio

Dan Moody Jenkins, born January 18, 1927 in Brashear, TX, passed away on May 12, 2018 at the Dallas VA Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Andrew Jackson Jenkins and Pearly Mae Jenkins; his wife, Barbara Jean Jenkins; and by his brothers and sisters, Leonard, Annvaline, Thomas, Roger, Henry, Anita, Jack, and Neoma. He is survived by sons, Dennis (Tawanna) and David (Joanna); and beloved daughter, Danna; grandchildren, Lisa (Mike), Angel, David (Mandy), Kristin and Josh; great-grandchildren: Alexandria, Preston, Anais, Paxton, Pierson, Elizabeth, Anna and Samuel; and also by one sister-in-law, Modene; and a number of nieces and nephews. Dan served in the Army in World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946 after having sustained a disability. He was self-employed for most of his life, owning and running self-serve laundries in Grand Prairie, TX. With his family, he lived most of his adult life in Grand Prairie and Cockrell Hill, TX, before retiring to the "It's Too Ranch" to pursue his love of the country and farming near Bogata, TX. Although he loved his farm and animals, after many years he returned to the city to be closer to his family and grandchildren. Dan could fix almost anything to which he set his mind. When he saw a piece of equipment for hay hauling, he checked it out and then built one for himself. His children knew that he could fix almost anything; and he willingly helped them with projects from wrecked car restoration to homebuilding. After his wife's passing in 2015, he continued to live in his own home with a lot of care from daughter, Danna, and grandson, Josh. His health began to deteriorate significantly in the fall of 2017 with lung and breathing issues. During the ensuing months before his passing, grandson Josh was at his side much of the time. At a time when many young college students would have been pursuing their own interests, Josh was with his granddaddy as a companion and great help to him. Dan was hospitalized in late 2017 and again in March 2018. On May 7, 2018, he was admitted to the VA for the final time where he passed away five days later. Although he was not generally an outwardly affectionate or demonstrative man, his family always knew that they were his greatest love and joy and that he would do anything for them even when he himself was not feeling up to par. He will be greatly missed. Memorial service is at noon on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Jeter and Son Funeral Home on West Illinois, Dallas followed by interment at 1:15 p.m. at the DFW National Cemetery.
