Bio
Vera A. Pratt Condon was born February 29, 1912, at Baker, Montana to Wallace John and Augusta (Ohlrich) Pratt. She grew up in Montana and graduated from Plevna, Mt. High School. She moved to Washington where she worked at various jobs including at a cannery. She met her first husband in Washington, they had one son Denzil Rush. They divorced. She met Howard Condon in Washington and they married Dec. 6, 1943 in Bakersfield, Ca. They lived in Bakersfield while Howard was in the Army. They moved to Yakima, Washington, in 1947 and later to Hamill, S.D. They lived in Moser, S. D. for a short time where Howard was employed on a ranch. The moved to Castlerock, S. D. where Howard worked for Mickey Fox. They moved to Sturgis where Vera was employed at the Sturgis Nursing home for 10 years. They moved to Whitewood after the flood and retired from the nursing home in 1977. Vera was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and was active in the Whitewood Senior Citizens Center for many years. Vera stayed busy as an avid crafter. She enjoyed crafting many items including stick horses and soft sculptured faces. Vera, 88, Whitewood, died Thursday, November 30, 2000, at the Belle Fourche Long Term Care Center. Survivors include one son, John Condon (Marie) , Millboro, S. D. ; one daughter, Nelda Brown, Whitewood; one daughter-in-law, Rose Rush, Winner; three brothers, Harry Pratt, Baker, Mt., Kenneth Pratt, Sun City, AZ, and Harold Pratt, Dickinson, N.D. ; one sister, Emogene (Jean) Hanson, Gillette, Wy: five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, one son, Denzil Rush, one son-in law, Virgil Brown: three brothers, Wayne, Bill, and Orie: and two sisters, Nellie and Molly.
