Forrest Girndt, 91, of Columbus, Texas passed away on May 5, 2018 in Columbus. He was born on July 12, 1926 to Ewald Girndt and Lena Janak Girndt in Columbus, Texas. On July 3, 1948 he married Dorothy Lois Hooper. Forrest spent time in the US Army during World War II from 1944 - 1946. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. Forrest retired as a plant foreman from the Superior Oil Company and Exxon Mobil Company. Forrest enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in his younger days. Forrest is survived by his son, Rickey Girndt and wife Cathy McCallum of Columbus, TX; sister, Tootsie Slays and husband Bob of Huntsville, TX; 2 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Lois Hooper Girndt, his parents Ewald and Lena Janak Girndt, sister Martha Polach, and brother Leonard "Mickey" Girndt. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 08, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas. Visitation on Wednesday from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. Rosary will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 7:00 PM at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus led by Deacon Bennie Holesovsky. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, 10:00 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with Fr. Augustine N. Asante officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Columbus. Pallbearers are Mathew Girndt, Donnie Templeton, Douglas Girndt, Bruce Polach, Shawn Schubert and Royce Jurries. Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
