James Joseph Petrzelka passed away April 14, 2007. He was born Aug. 22, 1911, in Prague, Neb., to James J. Petrzelka and Anna (Hines) Petrzelka. Mr. Petrzelka was an Army veteran of World War II and a life member of the D.A.V. A resident of Alamogordo for 50 years, Jim worked for the civil service at White Sands Missile Range and Holloman Air Force Base until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and was involved in the Knights of Columbus for more than 40 years. He also volunteered at the Alamogordo Senior Center and was an avid pinochle player. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Irene Petrzelka. He is survived by his twin brother, John Petrzelka, of Prague, Neb.; a son, James Petrzelka Jr. and wife Jan, of El Paso, Texas; a daughter, Kathie Drake, of Portland, Ore., and a son, Ron Petrzelka, of El Paso. He is also survived by five granddaughters: Jill Gill and husband John, Jennifer Kester and husband Chris, Angela Drake-Rome and husband Shawn, Nicole Pickering and husband Greg, and Sara Petrzelka; and eight great-grandchildren. A vigil with the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at St Jude Mission with Father Wayne D. Herpin, S.J., celebrant. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Alamogordo Funeral Home.
