Graveside services for Melba Aileen Rankin, 86, will be at Roselawn Park. (Bailey & Foster 4/30/2018) ∼ Melba Lasiter Rankin November 3, 1931 - April 29, 2018 Melba Lasiter Rankin, 86, passed away on April 29, 2018 after a tough fight against pancreatic cancer. Melba was born in Palestine, TX in 1931. She was a proud graduate of Maydelle High School where she was a state champion basketball player. Her team still holds the record as the only girls' high school team to beat a college-level team in an AAU game. Melba married the love of her life, Bill Rankin, in 1949, and they enjoyed 53 wonderful years together until his death in 2003. They were proud parents of 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Mrs. Rankin was an avid supporter of all Texas sports teams, especially the Dallas Cowboys. She loved to read and spend time with her family and many friends including The Birthday Club. Friends and family looked forward to Melba's delicious pies, peach cobbler, and chicken and dumplings. All who knew her will miss her big smile and contagious laugh. Melba is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Linda Rankin Beasley and Dane Beasley of Stephenville, TX; her sons and daughters-in-law Randy Rankin and Belinda Rankin of Austin, TX and Ron Rankin and Deanna Rankin of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Chris Rankin and wife Miki of Conroe, TX, Marc Rankin and wife Deanna of Austin, TX, Wesley Rankin and wife Jessica of Spring, TX, Justin Rankin and wife Katy of Austin, TX, Kathryn Beasley of Denton, TX, Jeffrey Kirkpatrick and wife Krysta of San Antonio, TX, and Billy Rankin of San Antonio, TX; great grandchildren Monte, Jordyn, Scarlett, Belen, Chamber, Kendall, and Luke; niece Carla Nelson and husband David of Rusk, TX; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Melba is preceded in death by her husband Bill Rankin, parents Allen and Maude Lasiter, sister Daisy Clapp, brother Fred Lasiter, and granddaughter Ashley Beasley. A visitation will be held at Bailey and Foster Funeral Home in Palestine, TX at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 4, 2018, and a graveside service will follow at 2:00 pm at Roselawn Park cemetery in Palestine, TX. In lieu of flowers, Melba requested that donations be made to: the Ashley Beasley Memorial Scholarship fund (Tarleton State University Foundation, P.O. Box T-0260, Stephenville, TX 76402); or The Home Place (The Hospice of East Texas Foundation, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75701).
