Bio
Charles Jesse was born on August 13, 1934 in a log cabin in Crockett, Texas to Jesse Thomas Waller and Lela Lois Platt Waller. At the age of 10, his family moved to Rosharon, Texas. After graduating from Angleton High School in 1953, he attended the University of Houston. He served in the Army and then, in 1956, married the love of his life, Sarabeth Caldwell Waller. They resided on the Waller-Caldwell Ranch in Sandy Point, Texas until her death after 51 years of marriage. After her passing, he continued to enjoy life on the ranch, his family, and his work. Charles Jesse was a member of The First Assembly of God Church in Angleton, served by Pastor Mike Hammonds who will also officiate the funeral service. Charles Jesse loved his work as a heavy civil contractor and the fruits of his labors changed the shape of the land in Brazoria, Fort Bend, and Harris counties. He was Sales Manager for Wyatt Industries, Vice President of McKnight & Little Contracting, and then owner and president of L&W Excavators. On a national scale, he led major civil infrastructure projects, including 80 miles of drainage ways through the state of Arkansas and at one time had as many as 26 simultaneous jobs located across 13 states, spanning 2600 miles. His local projects included the Alkek Vellodrome off of Barker Cypress Rd, the lakes of Country Place off of Hwy 288, the lakes in the Lakes of Eldridge and Sugar Lakes subdivisions, the first 4 miles of the Sienna Parkway and the levee along the Brazos in Sienna Plantation, the hills that comprise Mercer Stadium, and the floodgates and system on the canal intersecting Brooks Street near Hwy 6 to name a few that span 50+ years. Charles Jesse’s skill as an excavating contractor, his drive for excellence, his hard work, and his focused attention to detail, have left a solid foundation for the community in which we live and the land we live on. In addition to his wife and parents, Charles Jesse is preceded in death by his sister, Betty Gene Waller Hall, and brother, Robert Lee Waller. Survivors include his children, Sarabeth Waller Smith and husband, John, of Houston, Lois Michelle Waller Marchal and husband, Kenneth, of Sandy Point, C.J. Waller Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Sandy Point; granddaughters, Laura Marie Waller and Mary Elizabeth Waller of Sandy Point, and Victoria Michelle Smith Rotramel and husband, John, of Houston. He is also survived by numerous cousins, extended family, church family, and friends. Pallbearers will be Jack Platt, T.W. Caldwell IV, Taylor Duke, Andrew Williams, Jay Chaffin, and Brandon Caldwell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenneth Marchal, John Smith, William D. Graves, George M. Caldwell Jr., Michael W. Williams, T.W. Caldwell III, Bill Carraway, John (Buck) Caldwell, Jimmie Silvers, Terry Faniel and John Rotramel In lieu of usual remembrances, donations may be made to Angleton 1st Jail Ministry.
