Bio
On Monday, April 28, 2008 Lorena Short (Shorty) passed from this world to meet up with her loved ones waiting for her in Glory. Lorena dedicated her whole life to her Christian walk. She loved her family, caring for her children and lived a virtuous woman's life. She began her life's journey on March 22, 1918 as the last ba girl of four beautiful singing Christian girls to John J. Kays and Edna Lee Johnson. Lorena was known as a caregiver and warm hearted woman who began her nursing career at the Tuberculosis Hospital in Springville in 1953 and ended her career as a Head Charge Nurse at the Hacienda Convalescent Hospital in Porterville upon retirement. She and her husband, L.Z.(Blacky) Short of 57 years, settled in the Porterville and Springville area. They worshiped at the Church of Christ with their spiritual families in Strathmore, Porterville and Springville. They touched the lives of so many in the valley. Lorena was quickly to be known as everyone's "Granny", and always had the desire to make life better for those around her. She always had a way of lightening someone's heavy load, whether it is a great and delicious fried chicken dinner to feed the body or a scripture from her well worn Bible to feed the soul. Her values, ethics, character and morals of life were passed on to her three children, Sam Short, Carollyn Rutherford, and John Short, who in turn taught them to her 13 Grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. With Granny's passing she left a much extended large family and friends who will miss her, and to meet her lived ones that preceded her in death. Graveside services will be held 9:00 am at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Porterville, California.
