Bio
Peggy Jo Suggs, 90, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 9, 2018 in Wichita Falls, TX following a brief illness. She was born Margaret Josephine Kocurek on June 15, 1927 at home on the family's farm located in the Ogden Community, five miles from Seymour. Her parents, Joe Frank Kocurek and Eula Belle Bartos were of Czech heritage and only spoke Czech in the home at that time during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl. Peggy and her two younger sisters, Joreen and Helen, only spoke Czech and had to quickly learn English. Peggy was a good student and was active in the 4H Club, winning a trip as a Gold Star Girl to Texas A&M when she was only 12 years old. She graduated from Seymour High School and Texas Tech University. At Tech she was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron Home Economics Honorary and served as social director of Casa Linda Girl's Co-op. Peggy married Billy Clarence Suggs of Big Springs, TX on June 3, 1949 in Lubbock, TX. She taught Home Economics in Ida Lou, TX while Billy, a WWII veteran, completed his Business Degree at Texas Tech. They moved on to Big Springs and Dallas for a time before settling in Bethany, OK. Peggy devoted her time to raising three children, Deborah Lynn, Kenneth and John Mark. She was active in Home Demonstration Clubs in Oklahoma city. They attended Westlake Presbyterian Church in Bethany where Billy and Peggy designed and built the beautiful stained glass windows. Peggy was known as a talented seamstress and an award-winning artist. Peggy moved to Wichita Falls after her husband's death and lived at Brookdale (formerly Horizon Bay). She loved her life there and, with her sweet and friendly manner, made many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy; daughter, Deborah; sister, Helen Jane; and brothers-in-law, Don Mobley and James Ludeke. She is survived by her sons, John Suggs of Bethany and Kenneth Suggs of OKC; sister, Joreen Ludeke of Burkburnett, TX; brother, Joe Kocurek and wife, Betty, of Burkburnett, TX; grandchildren, Sharran and Bradley; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family expresses special thanks to the Hospice nurses and the staff and residents of Brookdale for the love, care and friendship shown to Peggy. Arrangements are under the direction of Mercer-Adams funeral Home in Bethany, OK. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 14, 2pm in Bethany Cemetery.
