Bio

Manfred Otto Nord passed away at 5:05 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at Regency House Nursing Home. He had fought many complications of a heart disease for 20 years. The Rev. Chester McCown will conduct services graveside at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in Miles Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Mr. Nord was born Sept. 19, 1928, in San Angelo to Hadley Nord and Lydia Granzin Nord Hester. He attended school in Klattenhoff and Miles. He was a lifelong member of Miles Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a dairy farmer with his father in his younger years, then worked as a sales person, county road maintenance, and Johnson's Funeral Home. He took a Medical retirement in 1988 after 10 years with the San Angelo Street and Bridge Dept. He was also retired from the Miles Volunteer Fire Department. He married Pauline Haverland on Sept. 4, 1952. They were blessed with two daughters, Debbie and Sharon and three grandchildren, Matthey, Justin and Hollie. Manfred was an outdoor person enjoying a good day of fishing. He took pride in growing a big garden and sharing his vegetables with friends and neighbors. His barbecue was a family favorite. Many children will remember him as "PaPa" when they stayed at the daycare in their home. He was preceded in death by his parents Hadley and Lydia, his stepfather Marvin Hester and Brother Wilfred Nord. Also his in-laws, Fritz and Anna Haverland and son-in-law John Kirkham. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pauline of Miles; two daughters, Debbie Howell of Miles and Sharon Kirkham of Odessa; three grandchildren, Mathew and Hollie Howell of Miles and Justin Kirkham of Odessa; two step-granddaughters, Tracy Calvert and husband Lee, and their children Haylee and Chase of Odessa, and Wanda Martinez and husband Daniel and their children Jensen and Cheyenne of Fort McKavitt; his sister and husband, Laverne and Bill Lonon of Granbury; sister-in-laws Sue Nord and Viola Sparks and brother-in-law Carl Haverland all of San Angelo; uncles and aunts, R.A. and Imelda Granzin of Miles, Bob and Sue Granzin of Baton Rouge, La.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and special family friends Mike Tounget of Miles, Caleb Rodgers and Ricky Offill both of San Angelo. The family wishes to thank Dr. Carl Anderton and his staff for their unfailing devotion to Manfred's many health problems over the years. Also a big Thanks to Outreach nurses, the staff of the Fourth Floor at Shannon Hospital and the staff at Regency House.
