He was born Aug. 26, 1929, to the late Henry and Minnie Lee Blackman Gatlin. He grew up in the Prairieville community of Kaufman County. He was a self-employed heavy equipment operator and worked in construction. He lived in Wills Point for 35 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Buckman Gatlin on Jan. 2, 2002, and son, Douglas Wayne Gatlin.
