Bio

After losing a courageous battle against brain cancer, (a glioblastoma), we lost a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. Charles "Chick" Burda, 78, of Saginaw, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence. The son of Ann (Rozanek) Burda and the late Charles F. Burda, Charles was born April 13, 1939 in Cedar Rapids, Neb. He married Susan Jankowski on June 19, 1971. She survives him. Charles proudly served in the U.S. Air National Guard. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in mechanical engineering. Charles worked for Dow Corning for 37 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of numerous professional engineering societies and involved in a local Mac computer club. He loved ice boating, Great Lakes sailing, golfing and long distance bike riding. He had an absolute zest for life and was always working on a project, whether it be his or helping someone else with theirs. Charles enjoyed reading, creating and designing, but most of all, he loved being with his immediate and extended family. His integrity, generosity and selflessness will always be remembered. Surviving besides his wife Sue are two daughters, Kate (Kevin) Fok, Aimee (Jeremy) Smith; one granddaughter, Raina Smith; his mother, Ann Burda; a sister, Mary Ann Burda; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Honoring Mr. Burda's wishes, cremation has taken place. The funeral Liturgy will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Fr. Solanus Casey Center, 1740 Mt. Elliott, Detroit, MI 48207. A reception will be held following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Field Neuroscience Institute. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The Snow Funeral Home of Saginaw. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store. Published by Midland Daily News on Apr. 7, 2018.
