Bio

His death certificate gave his birth date as 27 Sept 1854, but on the 1900 census, he said he was born in Dec of 1853. Either could be right. The informant for the death certificate was his daughter Annie Dolezal. Annie said that her father's father was Martin Machu, Sr, but did not know the name of his mother. Martin was married to Veronika Knezek, born in Jan of 1861 according to the 1900 census. On 22 June 1900, they were enumerated in Williamson County and said they had been married for 18 years and arrived in 1882. She said she had had 11 children and nine were still alive. There were nine children enumerated with them, ranging from Annie, age 17, to Bettina, age three. Ten years later they were still in Williamson County, but this time said they had been married 29 years and arrived in 1881. Veronika said that she had had 12 children and that nine were alive. No death record has yet been found for Veronika.
