Bio
Roger James Miller, 76, of 121 Navajo Trail, Hertford, NC, died Monday, February 26, 2018. Mr. Miller was born in Matagorda County, TX on December 17, 1941, and was the son of the late Alexander P. and Nellie Jones Miller. Retired as a Petty Officer First Class from the US Navy after more than 20 years of service, following his military career he worked in civil service at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. An avid outdoorsman, he especially loved to fish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosslyn Cohen Miller, and by four brothers, Roscoe, Paul, Lawrence, and Don. Surviving are his daughter, Nancy Jane Helgeson and husband Rob; two grandchildren, Brittany Murphy and husband Ryan and Cole Helgeson and wife Molly; two great-grandchildren, Caroline Murphy and Blake Helgeson; four sisters, Shirley, Ann, Doris, and Joyce; and two brothers, Grant and Dale. Friends may join the family Friday from 2 to 3 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. A private inurnment will be in Colonial Grove Memorial Park, Virginia Beach, VA.
