Son of Zachariah Shaffer and Emeline (VanHorn) Shaffer. William was married on July 31, 1887 to Sarah Ella Shipley. Together, they had three known children: 1. Roy T. Shaffer (1888-1967) 2. Clara Virginia (Shaffer) Shipley (1891-1975) 3. Raymond E Shaffer (1893-1974) Circa 1896 he likely [marriage license not located at this point] married Julianna "Anna" Smith, daughter of Lewis and Sarah (Smith) Smith. Together, they had at least ten children: Darius Sylvester Shaffer, Lula Esther (Shaffer) Boyd, William Spencer Shaffer, Dorothy Shaffer, Oscar Shaffer, Ralph H Shaffer, George Elmer Shaffer, Edna B (Shaffer) Smith, Earl Shaffer, and Grace A Shaffer.
