Services for Walter M. Harris, 87, of Tyler will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Jackson's Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 with Reverend Lester Foreman officiating. Interment will be in Bascom Cemetery with a private family ceremony. Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018 at the funeral home. Mr. Harris passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in Tyler. Walter M. Harris was born to the late, O.E. Harris and Sally Moser Harris in Tyler on January 23, 1931. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He later retired from Kelly Springfield where he worked as a supervisor and was also owner of Harris Tire in Mt. Sylvan. He was a member of Gateway Baptist Church in Whitehouse and T.R. Bonner Masonic Lodge. Mr. Harris loved his community and proudly served as a deputy constable for over 25 years in Pct. 3 and Pct. 5. Walter is survived by his son, Greg Harris of New Harmony; daughter, Paula McNeill and husband, Jeff of Whitehouse; brother Floyd Harris and wife, Lola of Chapel Hill; sister Juanita Stokes of Tyler and two grandchildren, Jed McNeill and Lana McNeill both of Chandler. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 49 years, Patricia Inez Jenkins Harris. Published in Tyler Morning Telegraph on Feb. 18, 2018
