Edward Joseph Parma, 98, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, in Mansfield, Texas. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Edward Joseph was born in Temple, Texas to the late Ignace Joseph Parma and Annie Nesrsta Parma. As a young boy, Edward’s family moved to Ennis, Texas, where he attended St. John School through eighth grade and graduated from Ennis High School. At the age of 16, he played the piano, accompanying various bands in the city. Edward also joined gymnastics in the Catholic Sokol Organization. At age nineteen, he helped other church members with the construction of St. John Nepomucene Church. Edward also worked for his dad who owned I. J. Parma & Sons grocery store. In 1941, Edward joined the U.S. Army and later joined the U.S. Army Airforce to become an Aviation Cadet Flight Officer. During World War II as Second Lieutenant, Edward flew 14 missions over urban Japan, as well as the Peace Mission over the USS Battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay during the signing of the Peace Treaty at the end World War II. He continued his service in the U.S. Air Force Reserve as Captain until his honorable discharged on February 7, 1963. After World War II, Edward rejoined his dad and brothers as a grocery merchant for I. J. Parma & Sons. In 1946, he met Adail Kubin and they married in 1948. On November 23, 2017, they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. Edward was a member of the Sokol Karel Havlicek Borovsky in Ennis for eight years as the lead director. He continued to play piano with the Eric Honza Orchestra for many years and later accompanied the Mikula Orchestra. In addition, he also volunteered to play piano with a number of bands at Legend Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. After closing the grocery store, Edward worked for 10 years with Leggett & Plant, Branch 3 as Purchasing Manager, Safety Director, and OSHA Compliance Officer, along with various other responsibilities. Edward was a member of St. John Church during the many years that he lived in Ennis and was a member of the St. John Choir for 50 years. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ikey and George Parma; sisters: Emily Holey, Josephine Towb, Bernadine Parma, and Dolores Kubelka; step-sister, Anne Easterwood; grandson, Eric Parma; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Survivors include his wife, Adail; daughters; Sandra McLemore and her husband, Steve, of Frisco, Ginger Bush and her husband, Tim, of Ennis, and Adrianne Lee and her husband, James, of Dallas; sons, Edward Parma Jr. and his wife, Carole, of Albuquerque, New Mexico,, and Jason Parma, of Ennis; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
