East St. Louis Journal, East St. Louis, Illinois, Sunday, November 1, 1942, page 3 OSCAR MILES DIES AT 85 Life-Long Resident of County, Ill Several Years Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday in the Linder chapel for Oscar S. Miles, 85 of Prospect Park, who died Friday morning in Christian Welfare hospital. Mr. Miles, who was a life-long resident of St. Clair County, had been ill for several years. He was the father of Oscar D. Miles, a veteran of the battle of Meuse-Argonne, one of the deciding battles of World War I, who now is stationed at Fort Riley, Kan. Before his induction into the Army this year, Miles was a member of the city fire department and was chef de guerre of the 40 and 8 unit of the American Legion. Other survivors are the widow, Mrs. Lizzie Miles, three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Bach, Mrs. Leota Doehler and Mrs. Eunice Snyder, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
