Carolyn Marie Witter October 21, 1939 - February 4, 2018 From: Denison, IA | Originally: Battle Creek, IA Carolyn Marie (Hanks) Witter, age 78, of Denison, Iowa, (formerly of Battle Creek, Iowa) passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, of Omaha, NE. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. The Reverend Kevin J. Freese will officiate; with Committal Services following in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church, of Battle Creek, Iowa. The Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Battle Creek, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Condolences may be sent online at www.christensenvanhouten.com Carolyn Marie (Hanks) Witter was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on October 21, 1939, to Julius Hanks and Gertrude (Jacobsen) Hanks. Later the family moved to Battle Creek, Iowa, where Carolyn received her education at the Battle Creek High School graduating with the class of 1957. She continued her education in Cherokee, Iowa, at Western Iowa Tech where she earned her LPN license. Carolyn worked at Willow Dale Care Center where she retired after 25 years of faithful service. Carolyn enjoyed spending time with family and making memories. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, and a good competitive game of cards was never out of the question especially when there were enough players for Shanghai. Carolyn was blessed with 5 children: sons Donald Witter and his wife April of Mc Gill, NV, Ronald Witter and his wife Stacy of Kingsley, IA; daughters Darla Rosenau and her husband John of Kiron, IA, Carol Mitchell and her husband Roy of Mountain Home, ID and Vicki Witter of Council Bluffs, IA; not to mention 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren all of whom she loved and adored greatly. Left to cherish her memory include her 5 children; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 3 siblings Kenneth Hanks and wife Phyllis of Rapid City, SD, Phillip Hanks of New Braunfels, TX, Darlene Zoch and husband Earl of Arthur, IA; and special friend Gerald Pallesen. Carolyn was proceeded in death by her parents Julius and Gertrude Hanks; daughter Cynthia Witter; and sister-in-law Mary Ann Hanks.
