Bio

It is with great sadness that the family of Lane Ligon announces his passing. Lane will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Jacqueline; daughters, Irene Newsom and husband Paul, and Elane McGowan and husband Bret; and 4 grandchildren. Mr. Ligon was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Lane and Thelma Ligon; and sisters, Evelyn, Judy and Lois. Mr. Ligon was a decorated Veteran of the 4th Marine Division during World War II, who was captured on the Marianas Islands, and survived the now infamous "Bataan Death March". Ligon was held as a POW from December 10th of 1941 until September 2nd, 1945. His captivity was one of the longest of the second World War. He was the recipient of numerous military decorations, including the purple heart and the Oklahoma Cross of Valor. Lane returned to Oklahoma from the war and graduated with a degree in Engineering from Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. He began work in the oil field and became a supervisor for Joy Petroleum Equipment until his retirement after twenty-one years of service. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time on his family farm and traveling with his family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, Feb. 8, at Waldo Funeral Home chapel in Sherman with Bro. Bobby Hancock officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Pipan, Dustin Weatherly, Denver Weatherly, Jerry Holland, Joel Moore and Scott Palmer. Honorary pallbearers will be sons-in-law, Paul Newsom and Bret McGowan. Graveside services will follow in the afternoon at 2:00 PM at the Hillcrest Memorial Park in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Obituary published online 5 February 2018 by Waldo Funeral Home, Sherman, Texas.
