Bio

Ruby Lee Jacob Damerau Braun, 99, of Yorktown, TX went to be with the Lord on January 25, 2018 Ruby was born March 19, 1918, in the Kilgore Community in Goliad County, TX to Edwin O. Jacob and Mathilda Hartman Jacob. She was a 1936 graduate of Yorktown High School and attended Texas Lutheran Junior College (now TLU). She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Texas State Teachers College (now SWT) and taught third grade for 33 years. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in the Kilgore Community. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Yorktown. Ruby married Lawrence Damerau on Dec. 25, 1941, and moved to Austin, TX. Lawrence preceded her in death in 1977. Ruby married Dr. Chester Braun in 1986 and lived both in San Antonio, TX and Yorktown until Chester's death in 2001. At that time Yorktown became her permanent home. While in Austin, Ruby and Lawrence were avid bowlers and traveled around the state to tournaments. Ruby was also a volunteer with various organizations and received several letters of appreciation for her work, including one from Governor Bill Clements. In addition to her parents and spouses, she was preceded in death by her sisters Viola Hausmann, Anita Heil, Kathleen Bade, and Wilodene Lemke, and brothers Elmer, Wilfred, Marvin, and Edwin Jacob. Visitation will be Monday Jan. 29, 2018, at 10 am at Massey Funeral Home and the Funeral Service will be Monday Jan. 29, 2018, at 11 am at Massey Funeral Home, and Interment to follow at Lockhart City Cemetery Memorials can be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hospice of South Texas or Donor's Choice Arrangements by Massey Funeral Home, Yorktown, Texas.
