TAYLOR — Gwen Dorlea Bowley, 76, of Taylor died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Calvary United Methodist Church in Taylor. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery. Pastor Dennis Davenport will officiate. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of the arrangements. Dorlea was born Aug. 12, 1941, in Burwell to Burel and Elva (Coleman) Yocum of Taylor. Dorlea attended school in Taylor and then she went to business school in Grand Island. Following business school, she started working at Equitable Bank in Grand Island. From there she moved back to Taylor to work at Sargent Co-op. On Aug. 2, 1963, she married Donald Bowley of Taylor. The couple made Taylor their lifelong home. After their son, Brian, was born in 1964, Dorlea worked as the Taylor village clerk and later started work at the Taylor Bank, from where she retired in 2006. Dorlea was active in her community helping with Loup County Community Center and was a member of the Taylor VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed her camping and fishing trips to Lake McConaughy in the summers, along with her flowers and gardening. She loved her sports, especially Husker volleyball. She always enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and always was happy to bake that scratch chocolate cake for dessert. Dorlea is survived by her husband, Don Bowley of Taylor; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Wanda Bowley of Burwell; two grandchildren, Brandon and Sara Bowley of Grand Island and Emilee Bowley of Lincoln; two great-grandchildren, Addalyn and Elaina Bowley of Grand Island; a brother, Jim Yocum of Seattle, Wash.; and her mother-in-law, Twilla Bowley of Ord. Dorlea was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Yavonne Yocum; a brother, Jack Yocum; a sister-in-law, Pam Yocum; and her father-in-law, Hubert Bowley.
