Bio

Published in The Sierra Vista Herald (January 23, 2018): SIERRA VISTA - Ruth Ann McConnell, 84, of Sierra Vista passed away on January 17, 2018, after a long illness. Ruth was born February 16, 1933, in West Liberty, Iowa, to Stephen and Adaline (Male) Bausch. One of fourteen children, Ruth enjoyed a happy childhood of life on a farm. Upon graduation from Columbus High School, Columbus Junction, Iowa, Ruth traveled to California to attend Bible Institute of Los Angeles (BIOLA). There she was involved in choir, Church of the Open Door, and met and married her first husband, Gary D. Shipman. She enjoyed her work as a bank manager for many years in California. In later years, Ruth married Charles F. McConnell and moved to Yuma, Arizona, where she lived for 20 years. In 1993, Ruth and Charles moved to Sierra Vista, where they were active members at Sierra Vista Baptist Church; and she, later, at Village Meadows Baptist Church. Ruth enjoyed working as a volunteer at Kartchner Caverns State Park; sewing and smocking heirloom baby dresses; singing, helping with Vacation Bible School and preschool Sunday school; and practicing hospitality in her home. She also had a passion for mentoring and counseling the young women God brought into her life, and frequently led Bible studies, as well as one-on-one ministry. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Gregory Lee (Brenda) Shipman; two stepsons, Doug McConnell and Ed McConnell; two grandchildren, Katie (Lynden) Judy and David Shipman; three great-grandchildren, Tally, Claire, and Jhett; and siblings, Hope, Ronald, Douglas, Lester, Gary, Joyce, Carol, Marilyn, Phillip, Jarrold, and Susan. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Adaline Bausch; brothers, Stephen Bausch and Larry Bausch; and husband, Charles McConnell. Memorial services for Ruth will be held at 11:00 a.m. on February 3, 2018, at Village Meadows Baptist Church, 1407 El Camino Real, Sierra Vista, AZ, with Pastor Mark Pitts officiating. The family would like to thank the many devoted caregivers, friends, and fellow church members and staff who demonstrated great love and compassion to Ruth in her final days. Heaven will, one day, reveal the eternal investment you made in her life. β€œHe will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4
