Bio

Dale Durkop, 75, of Humphrey, Nebraska, died Thursday, January 18, 2018, at the Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Nebraska. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, January 24, at Grace Lutheran Church in Norfolk, Nebraska, with Rev. Ray Wilke and Rev. Chris Asbury officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus and continue on Wednesday, from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service held immediately prior to the service. Interment will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday in the Columbus Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Creston Fire & Rescue, the Orphan Grain Train, or Grace Lutheran Church. Dale H. Durkop was born on May 8, 1942, to Henry and Anna (Luchsinger) Durkop in Columbus, Nebraska. He attended school in Creston and graduated from Creston High School in 1960. He entered the National Guard in 1963, attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and was honorably discharged in 1966. On June 9, 1964, Dale was united in marriage to Ruth Menke at the Shell Creek Baptist Church in rural Columbus. To this union two sons were born. Dale lived on his family's farm his entire life. He loved the farm life, especially caring for livestock and harvest time. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, especially pulling them on sleds with his 4-wheeler in the wintertime. Dale is survived by: Wife: Ruth Durkop of Humphrey, NE Son: Alan Durkop of Norfolk, NE Son: Mark (Cindy) Durkop of Creston, NE Grandchildren: Allison, Garett, & Abby Durkop of Creston, NE Sisters-In-Law: Marcella Hauser of Grand Island, NE; Vernice Voight of Columbus, NE; Luella (Ray) Luchsinger of Columbus, NE; & Genevieve Menke of Gardner, KS Brother-In-Law: George Menke of Columbus, NE Dale was preceded in death by: Parents: Henry & Anna Durkop Sister: MaryAnn (John) Schmidt Infant Brother: Jacob Durkop Brothers-In-Law: Dwayne Menke; Ray Hauser; & Edwin Voight Sister-In-Law: Judy Menke
