------------------------- Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Tuesday, 17 April 1945 Mason City, Apr. 17 (Special) Fred M. Mortensen, 67, a resident of Nebraska for 65 years and of this community 47 years, passed away at his home in Mason City early Saturday morning. A cerebral hemorrhage was the immediate cause of death. Born in Denmark, the deceased came to the United States with his parents when two years of age, the family first locating in Lancaster county and later establishing a home near Mason City, Neb. In June 1904, he married Miss Elizabeth Danielson, and to this union eight children were born. The wife and mother passed away two years ago, and on Nov. 13, 1944, Mr. Mortensen was united in marriage with Mrs. Rozena Coffman, who survives him. Among the survivors, besides the widow, are two daughters and four sons, two of the latter being in service. He is also survived by five brothers, three sisters, and six step-children. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon from the Peterson funeral home, Rev. W. E. Tharp, pastor of the Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in the Danish Lutheran churchyard cemetery, eight miles south of town.
