Bio
Irene (Vacha) Shipman was born to Emil and Ida (Lapour) Vacha in Howells. Irene was raised in the Howells area, and graduated from high school in 1946. She worked at Northwestern Bell as an operator for many years before retiring from what became US West in 1981. She was a member of Telephone Company Pioneers. Irene was married to Charles Shipman on Sept. 29, 1992, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. She was a longtime member of the church and the Catholic Daughters.
