Donnal Arno Nelson, age 84 of Hastings, Minnesota and formerly of Port Orchard, Washington passed away from amyotrophic lateral selerosis ( ALS) on December 31, 2013. He was born on May 20, 1929 in Hallock, Minnesota to Victor Sextus and Margaret Helmnia (Foss) Nelson. His only known sibling is Marge Yvonne Nelson. He graduated from high school in Lake Bronson, Minnesota in 1947. He and his brother joined the United States Navy in 1948 and served during the Korean War. After serving in the United States Navy he started an apprenticeship at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington. He worked at the shipyard until he retired as a ships scheduler supervisor in 1984. On 16 September 1977 he married Laura May (Williams) Hodgman in Port Orchard, Washington. This union ended with the death of Laura in 1990. He moved to Hastings, Minnesota after his first wife, Laura, passed away in Port Orchard, Washington in 1990. On 27 July 1991, he married Delia Mae (Sandahl) Simmons, in Hastings, Minnesota. Don was a longtime member of the American Legion and VFW. At one time he was the commander of VFW Post 1210, and for many years he participated as an Honor Guard Member. His hobbies included ham radio operation for over 30 years, as well as traveling to stay connected with friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Delia; and stepchildren, Sean (Lisa), Kris (Ken), and Michelle. He is also survived by his twin brother, Dennis (Fran); and sister, Marge (Rollin), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Burial to be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
