Letter carrier, World War II veteran Frederick A. Gehrman, 81, of Springfield, a letter carrier, died May 25 at Springfield Hospital. Born, raised and educated in Philadelphia, he attended the former Transfiguration of Our Lord School and graduated from West Catholic High School in 1939. He lived in Springfield for 32 years. Mr. Gehrman was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army and receiving the Bronze Star during the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1974 as a letter carrier after more than 30 years of service. He worked out of the Kingsessing office at 52nd and Whitby streets in Philadelphia. Mr. Gehrman was also a member of the senior citizens group, the Prime Timers. He was son of the late August F. Gehrman and Johanna B. Buechele Gehrman. Survivors: Wife of 32 years, Gisela "Chella" Torres Gehrman sons, William J. Gehrman of West Chester, Joseph A. Balbona of Orlando, Fla. daughter, Miriam E. Bilhardt of Springfield sisters, Henrietta Leonard of Springfield, Sr. Elizabeth Gehrman SHCJ of Washington D.C. eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mass: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Holy Cross Church, Bishop Avenue and Springfield Road, Springfield. Visitation: 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial: Private.
