Eugene Donoghue of Columbus died Friday, December 15, 2017 at Columbus Community Hospital. Eugene Donoghue was born February 5, 1923 in Platte County, NE to Dan and Elizabeth (Macken) Donoghue. He attended Oakdale District #4 school. Gene was drafted into the US Army during World War II and served from 1944-1946. He was a part of the Normandy invasion into France. Gene returned to the farm northwest of Columbus where he farmed until retiring and moving into Columbus in 1988. He was united in marriage to Berdella Reynoldson on February 26, 1988. Gene loved going to cattle sales and visiting with cattle producers. He was a member of S. Isidore Catholic Church, American Legion Parry Post #283 in Platte Center, and had previously served on the Shell Creek Township Board and Co-Op Board. He is survived by: Wife Berdella Donoghue of Columbus 5 Step-Children Sister-in-law Irene Donoghue of Schuyler Numerous Nieces and Nephews He is preceded in death by: Parents Dan and Elizabeth Donoghue Brothers Mark (Joyce), Phil, and Paul (Gladys) Donoghue Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM, Monday, December 18, 2017 St. Isidore Catholic Church 3921 20th Street Columbus, NE Vigil 4:00 PM, Sunday, December 17, 2017 McKown Funeral Home Columbus, NE Visitation 2-4 pm Sunday at McKown Funeral Home and continues Monday morning from 10-11 am at St. Isidore Church Interment St. Bonaventure Cemetery Columbus, NE with Military Honors by Platte Center Parry Post #283 American Legion Honor Guard
