Norma Jean Orrel, 78, of West Salem, died at 9:58 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011 at her home in West Salem. According to Norma Jean’s wishes there will be no services and her body will be cremated. Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem is in charge of arrangements. Norma Jean was born September 23, 1932, in Pierce, Neb., the daughter of Henry Arnold and Stella Marie (Vyhildal) Uttecht. She was an avid reader and also an avid Bears fan. She loved her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Mt. Carmel and enjoyed the monthly Bible studies shared in her home with Pastor Tom. She loved iris flowers and when she was unable to care for them, her grandchildren took over the job. Norma Jean is survived by her son, Mike (Nancy) Orrel of West Salem; sister, Ruth Giese of West Salem; four grandchildren, Angel(Tim) Tarpley of Naples, Fla., Mindy (Nathan) Newsum of Mt. Carmel, Sarah (Brandon) Keener of West Salem and Rachel (Travis) French of Albion; seven great-grandchildren, Addy and Ashey Tarpley, Cody Newsum, Easton, Kami, Avery and Jaycob Keener; one great-great-grandchild, Lexi Tarpley; and several nieces and nephews who reside in California and dearly loved their “Aunt Norma Jean” She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Arnold and Stella Marie Uttecht; son, Gary Orrel; sister, Lorraine Mello; and brothers, Lein and Ralph Uttecht.
