Bio
William E. McMillan (Bill), aged 86 years, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2017, surrounded by his family. Bill will be forever remembered by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Frances McMillan; son, Doug McMillan (Jeannie); daughter, Sherry McMillan Wiedman (Ray); grandchildren, Ben McMillan, Jamie Wiedman Daniel (Kyle), Kelley Wiedman, Sarah Grace, Brendan Roberts, and Dan Roberts. Bill will also be lovingly remembered by his sister, Doris Evelyn Lightsey, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends. He is predeceased by his parents; brother, Joseph McMillan; and sister, Eva Frances Watkins. Bill was born on February 25, 1931, in Laurel, Mississippi to Eva Brannan McMillan and Newton Jasper McMillan. He joined the United States Air Force in 1949 at age 18 and proudly served his country for 21 years. Upon military retirement, he earned his Associate Degree in Accounting from Floyd Junior College and began working for Goodyear Aerospace in Rockmart, Georgia from which he also retired 24 years later. Bill was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. His children and grandchildren were his heart and joy. His wonderful spirit will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, at Second Avenue Baptist Church, Rome, Georgia with the Reverend Monty Stallins officiating. Visitation with the family will be immediately following the service. Burial with military honors will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia on December 18 at 1:00 p.m. He was a faithful member of Second Avenue Baptist Church for 57 years and memorial donations can be made to: Second Avenue Baptist Church, 823 East Second Avenue, Rome, Ga. 30161.
