Oroville Daily Register (Oroville, California) 13 Mar 1925, Friday Page 1 and 4: Harry Jacoby, Good Citizen, Is Dead. Harry Jacoby, respected and useful citizen of Oroville for half a century, died yesterday morning at his home in this city. Death ended an illness of long duration, in which Mr. Jacoby bravely fought a hopeless battle for life. The news of Mr. Jacoby’s death was received with profound sorrow over the whole community. Widely known, he was respected by all for the integrity of his character, his friendly spirit, his keen business judgment, loyalty and service for the community. As news of his death became known yesterday, the sorrow of the family was reflected over the whole community. Funeral on Monday. Funeral services will be held at the Masonic Temple in Oroville at 10 o’clock Monday morning. The interment will be in the Jewish cemetery here. Came to Oroville in 1873. Mr. Jacoby was born in Germany in 1859. He came to the United States in 1870, and entered business in San Francisco. Three years later he came to Oroville. For over 43 years he has been continuously in the jewelry business here. Throughout his residence in Oroville Mr. Jacoby was prominently identified with the development and upbuilding of the city. He was intensely loyal to Oroville, serving on many public committees and contributing generously to various funds intended for the betterment and development of Oroville. Was City Treasurer. Mr. Jacoby served for fifteen years as city treasurer of Oroville. He was also prominent in fraternal work in Oroville, being past president of Oroville Lodge Number 103, F. and A.M. He was also a member of Franklin Chapter, No. 20, R.A.M., of which he was High Priest; Marysville Council No. 3, Royal and Select Masters, of which he was also past master; Islam Temple, Mystic Shrine; Oroville Pyramid No. 19, A.E.O.S.; Amapola Chapter No. 119, O.E.S.; Oroville Lodge No. 59, I.O.O.F.; Oroville Encampment No. 22, Orange Grove Rebekah Lodge No. 84, and Oroville Lodge No. 519, L.O.O.M. Mr. Jacoby was a devoted husband and father. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, Mrs. Ida Jacoby; two daughters, Miss Bertha and Miss Harriet Jacoby; a son, Dr. Lionel Jacoby, all of Oroville; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Joseph of San Francisco, and brother, David Jacoby, of San Francisco Friends of Mr. Jacoby are welcome at Hamilton and Riley’s where the body will remain until the time of the funeral.
