Bio

Virginia Iola Cynova, 89, of Junction City, KS, passed away on November 22, 2017 at Valley View Senior Life Center. Visitation will be held Sunday November 26, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 203 N. Washington St., Junction City, KS. Funeral services will be held on Monday November 27, 10:00am, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of Junction City with Father Kyle Berens officiating. Committal services will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Ronald McDonald House (825 SW. Buchanan St.,Topeka KS 66606), Accord Hospice (3250 Kimball Ave, Manhattan, KS 66503), and St. Francis Xavier’s Catholic Church (218 N. Washington St., Junction City, KS 66441). Virginia was born in McCook, Nebraska on January 11, 1928 to Rex and Gladys (Cook) Cross. She grew to womanhood in Indianola, Nebraska. She met and married David Cynova January 4, 1944 at Oberlin, Kansas. With his military obligation, they moved to many duty stations. They later settled in Junction City, KS in 1947. She was a home maker until 1963. She later worked at the Geary Community Hospital for many years, followed by working at the Fegan Telephone Company. She retired from United Telephone Company (Formerly Fegan Telephone Company) in 1985. Virginia loved to fish, read, and visit the casino. She was known for her luck at the machines. She will be dearly missed by both friends and most especially, her family. Virginia is survived by her loving family: two daughters, Janet (Robert) Miller of Junction City, KS, and Beverly (Thomas) Thornberg of San Antonio, TX; four sons, James “Jim” (Barb) Cynova of Junction City, KS, William “Bill” (Betty) Cynova of Wichita, KS, Robert “Bob” (Wanda) Cynova of Jefferson City, MO, and Daniel “Dan” (Lauren) Cynova of Rockledge, FL; sister, Violet Blume of Indianola, NE; 13 Grandchildren, 22 Great-Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great-Grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband David Cynova, parents Rex and Gladys Cross, son, Jerry Cynova, brothers, Richard Cross and Donald E. Cross, two great-grandsons, Dakota (Cynova) Evans and Lance Cynova, and a host of loving family and friends.
