Leonard was born on January 6, 1926 in Bee, Nebraska the son of Frank and Mary (Hamata) Fila. Leonard attended Bee School and worked on the family farm until his family moved to Omaha. He entered the U.S. Army in 1944 and served overseas during WW II. After being discharged in June of 1946, Leonard met the love of his life on Christmas Day of that same year and was united in marriage to Agnes “Aggie” Vocelka in Omaha on February 19, 1949. They made their home in Omaha until 1953 when they moved to Grand Island where Leonard founded the Glass Bar with his brother Bill. For 28 ½ years they worked with their wives in the liquor business, opening the Sportman’s Bar, Dad’s Liquor, Seven Seas and Fila’s Laundry Mat. Besides being a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Leonard was a member of the Legion Club and had been a stockholder at Fonner Park. Leonard was a very quiet, strong, humble and hardworking man and his kind and gentle heart touched many. He shared his love of dancing with his beloved wife and they could waltz for hours. He enjoyed going to Vegas, fishing, watching the Yankees and cherished spending time with his family, including the love of his furry friend, Gigi. Leonard was a scratch golfer and even at the ripe young age of 89, he had still enjoyed playing golf. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 68 years, Aggie, son Len (Pat) Fila of Omaha; daughters, Lori (Bret) Packard of Las Vegas, NV, and Lesli Fila of Grand Island, 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way, his sisters Bess and Sylvia of Omaha, along with numerous extended family and friends.
