Bio
Funeral services for Nathan Utsey, Sr. will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Bro. Ray Still will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Dew Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018, with the family present, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m at the funeral home. Mr. Utsey passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Teague Nursing Home. Nathan was born on January 2, 1928 in Teague to James & Lou Ella Utsey. He was married to Laverne Utsey for about 35 years and then married to Janet Utsey for over 35 years. Nathan was a weatherman for the U.S. Air Force in his early years. He owned and operated Utsey Construction Co. for about 40 years. Mr. Utsey loved his horses and cattle, growing vegetables. He loved sports especially Dallas Cowboys. Nathan was a Deacon of Riverview Baptist Church in Houston and also a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church in Teague. He is survived by his three children, Mary Lynn Galloway & husband Marvin of Austin, Calvin Utsey, Jr. & wife Brenda of Dayton, Jo Ann Miller of Humble; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Utsey was preceded in death by his parents, James & Lou Ella Utsey; his first wife, Laverne Utsey; his second wife, Janet Utsey; two sisters; and five brothers.
