Bio
Ruth M. Dickerson, 85, a long-time resident of Burkeville,Texas, passed away November 5, 2017 in Beaumont, Texas. She was born in Clarktown, Sabine County, Texas and grew up in Survey, Texas. She graduated from Burkeville High School where she met the love of her life, Cecil Dickerson. They married soon after graduation and started their family of two sons, Kent and David. Ruth was a long-time and devoted member of Burkeville Baptist Church. Her passions in life were her family and her church. She was always there for her entire family and never missed graduations or special events for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She also loved gardening and crocheting. Ruth spent 36 years working in the Newton County Courthouse, spending the last 16 as the County Treasurer. In 2012 she moved from Burkeville to Beaumont where she lived in assisted living facilities. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Mamie (Midkiff) Marshall, step-father Willie Hudson, husband of 36 years Cecil Dickerson, brother Elton Marshall and sister Joyce Cain. Ruth is survived by her children Kent and wife Becky, David and wife Paula all of Bridge City, Texas; sisters Jean Lunberg and husband Steve of Bozeman, Montana and Linda Schump of Johnson City, Tennessee; one aunt, Estelle and husband Norman Miller of Burkeville, Texas. Also eight grandchildren; Jenni and her husband Bryan Chester, Jason Dickerson and wife Lora Lee, Kimberly and husband Marcus Johnson, Kevin Dickerson, Trae Lawler, Leann Lawler, Casey Rouly, Carl Certa and wife Gloria; thirteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jason Dickerson, Kevin Dickerson, Casey Rouly, Carl Certa, Bryan Chester and Marcus Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jack Chester and Dickie Harris. Visitation will be 5:30-8:00pm on Friday, November 10th, at Stringer-Griffin Funeral Home in Burkeville, Texas, with funeral services on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 10:00am at Burkeville Baptist Church. Services will be conducted by Rev. Eddie Sunday and Rev. Van Lowe. Burial will be at Woods Cemetery in Burkeville, Texas. The family would like to send special thanks to the staff and caregivers of Collier Park, Pelican Bay and Harbor Hospice for the love and care given to our mother. In lieu of flowers contributions may be given to Burkeville Baptist Church.
