Rev. Cyrus H. Stevens SHERMAN -- Services for Reverend Cyrus H. Stevens 101-year-old Sherman resident who passed away on Monday, March 26, 2007, at Mission Oaks Care Center, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2007, at Dannel Funeral Home. Reverend T.M. Shaw, retired Church of God minister, and Reverend Terry Cripe of the Pentecostal Church of God will officiate. Interment will follow at Holloway Cemetery. Rev. Stevens was born on June 30, 1905, in Quinlan, Texas, the son of Thomas Hezekiah Stevens and Lockey Ophilia Stracer Stevens. On September 7, 1924, he married Delilah Leota Miller in Westminster, Texas. They were married for over 65 years until her death on July 15, 1990. In August of 1933, he was converted to the Church of God in Celina, Texas. He accepted his calling as a Minister and was eventually ordained in the Church of God after scoring a 97 on a written exam. He preached at a number of churches in Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Arkansas, and Louisiana before returning to the first church at which he ever preached a sermon in Celina, Texas. He served there for three years. When he retired from the Church of God in 1975, he continued to preach at a church in Sherman for 22 more years, making a total of 62 years he preached the gospel. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delilah; his daughter, Katherine Warren; son, Walter H. Stevens; brothers, Thomas, Hatlie, Edison, and Oliver Stevens; and sisters, Dora Veazy and Vertie King. He is survived by seven children, Allen E. Stevens of Tyler, C.H. Stevens Jr. of Ardmore, Okla., Pastor Mike Stevens of Arkansas, Jerry Stevens of Greenville, Nell Jarvis of Sherman, Alpha Bogan of Kansas and Mary Stevens of Sherman; his brother, Hubert Stevens of McKinney; 27 grandchildren and over 50 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Dannel Funeral Home. Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve Reverend Stevens as pallbearers.
