Edward J. Korenek, 82 of Nada passed away on Nov 2, 2017. He was born on January 26, 1935 in Nada to the late Adolph and Justina Janish Korenek. Edward was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nada. He served on the church board, St. Mary’s School board, and was an extra-ordinary minister of Holy Communion, a lector, and choir member. Edward was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and held several offices, including Grand Knight, and Faithful Navigator for the fourth degree. He was a member of the KJT, and held officer positions here as well. In 1985, he was appointed a Knight of St. Gregory. Edward served on the board of directors for the Gulf Coast Association of Life Underwriters, with one year as president. He served on the Wharton County Electric Co-op board of directors for nine years, and was president for four years. He served as a board member for the Nada Farmer’s Gin Co-op, and the Garwood Farmer’s Co-op. Edward was always very willing to serve in these capacities, and saw it as both an honor and a duty. Edward was a lifetime farmer and rancher, and served his brother Knights as an insurance agent for the Knights of Columbus for 28 years. Edward was a hard-working man. His passion was farming and ranching, and he thoroughly enjoyed the demanding work and long hours this lifestyle required. Providing for his family was something he held as a priority. Contributing to his church and community was also an important part of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Lambert Korenek. Visitation will be held on Monday November 6, 2017 from 5 pm to 7 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
