MARIETTA - Services for Thomas Jackson "T.J." Kays, 74, will be March 16, 2007 at Flangan-Watts chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Dowdey and Bro, Murray McMurray officiating. Interment will be at McAlister Cemetery. Born on Sept. 21, 1932, in Springer, Okla. to Homer and Frances Ruth McGuire Kays, he died March 13, 2007, at the Marietta hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, James Kays and William Homer Kays. A resident of this area most of his life, he retired from the Gainesville, Texas water department after 20 years of service. He was also an appliance repairman for many years. Mr. Kays loved bluegrass music, watching westerns on television, attending auctions and playing with his five great-grandchildren who were the light of his life. He was a Baptist. He and Evelyn Laveta Vaughan were married on Nov. 27, 1954, in Gainesville, Texas. Survivor include his wife, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Theressa Kays, Hobbs, N.M.; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Ruth and Dewey Hicks, Jimtown; six grandchildren, Venus Ratliff, Allen Hicks, Danny Hicks, Thomas Hicks, Cody Kays and Magan Kays; and great-grandchildren, Seth Ford, Cody Hicks, Adyn Kays, Graicee Hicks and Laney Hicks. Bearers will be Cody Kays, Thomas Hicks, Danny Hicks, Lloyd Vaughan, Allen Hicks and Richard Vaughan. Honorary bearers are Venus Ratliff, Magan Kays, Jennifer Hicks, Brandi Hicks and Nikki Hicks.
