Robert Cornelius DeGeest, 82, of Redfield, SD, passed away peacefully at Redfield Care and Rehabilitation Center on Monday, October 30, 2017. Robert DeGeest was born February 13, 1935 in Miller, SD to Cornelius and Grace (Wilson) DeGeest. He was raised in Miller and attended Miller High School. Later, Robert enlisted in the United States Army National Guard. He worked road construction for many years before moving to Redfield to work for the Redfield State Hospital and School. Upon his retirement, he continued to live in the Redfield community. Robert loved music and could often be found listening to one of his many country western tapes. He also enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing and pheasant hunting. Robert is survived by his daughter Connie Jo Casey of Glencoe, MN; his sister, Mary Lou Sauville of Pomona, CA; his grandsons: James, Kyle, and Garrett Casey, and several nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his son, Bob, and five sisters: Isabel Lechtenburg, Vera Dean, Wilma Baule, and Opal Roach. Funeral: Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. Officiating: Pastor Lorah Houser Jankord. Burial: Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Arrangements: Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home.
