Bio

Jonathan Nichols, Jr. was born to Jonathan Nichols, Sr. and Rhoda Martin Nichols on March 4, 1775. He graduated from Yale, and became a Free Will Baptist. He married Hannah Mason on January 17, 1796. The following April 8 their daughter Rhoda Nichols was born. On January 11, 1816, he officiated the marriage between his daughter Rhoda Nichols and Chauncey Brockway, Sr. He purchased land near Weedville, Jay TWP, Elk County, and during the fall of 1817 traveled with Chauncey and Rhoda Brockway to their new lands. Jonathan Nichols, Jr. would settle on his land in 1819. In 1822 he moved to Brandy Camp, Elk County, PA, bringing his parents. His father was a Revolutionary War veteran. Jonathan Nichols, Jr. was the first pastor and doctor in the Little Toby Creek valley. He officiated the marriage of his daughter Rebecca to Asaph Milton Clarke. He encouraged his son-in-law Asaph M. Clarke to enter medicine. Dr. A. M. Clarke was the founder of Brockwayville in 1836. Rev. Dr. Jonathan Nichols, Jr. died in 1846 and was buried in his family's plot, now known as Pioneer Cemetery in Brandy Camp. His original stone was later moved to the Clarke family plot in Wildwood Cemetery in Brockwayville.
